There is something melodramatically divine about the BBC’s handling of Tipping the Velvet. Based on the book of the same name by Sarah Waters, the BBC turned her work into a 3-part television mini series. At about 177 minutes long, it still feels a little rushed in places.
The movie stays faithful to Water’s basic story of male impersonator Nan King (Rachel Stirling), a small-town gal at the turn of the century whose life takes a wild turn of its own when she follows a local music hall star Kitty Butler (Keeley Hawes) to London.
Decide for yourself by watching (what I believe to be) the entire 3-part mini series online, right here (in English with subtitles).
