Taxi to Paris by Ruth Gogoll

Taxi to Paris

Ruth Gogoll

The narrator, lesbian, a project leader at the beginning of 30, meets ‘her’ by chance and is immediately fascinated by this beautiful woman. Although ‘she’ is a prostitute for women, both begin an erotic affair. Soon the narrator has to admit to herself that ‘she’ is her greatest love – the other woman however seems to be very cautious and hesitant. The narrator suffers more and more from her jealousy caused by ‘her’ profession; although it is very painful for her she leaves ‘her’. Soon the narrator receives ‘her’ call for help – ‘she’ has been attacked and badly hurt. ‘She’ begs the narrator to bring ‘her’ to Paris to her flat. Only in Paris ‘she’ is able to live some kind of normal live – she can go out without being afraid to meet a client. Slowly the narrator gains the impression that ‘she’ loves her also; because of tragic experiences in her youth ‘she’ is unable to tell her so. Will there ever be a future for both these women?

Unusual, gripping, exciting love story with very erotic love scenes; the style of narration (both women are only called ‘I’ and ‘she’) takes some time to get used to and is somewhat irritating.
