New York Newspaperman Slade Compton is catapulted into a group of rich and corrupt Europeans who have depraved day-to-day existence. There is Charles, the weak and vain exiled king; Gizka, his chamberlain; Rakow, the ruthless, amoral Llona, whis is both Gizka’s wife and Charles’s mistress. And there is also Monique, the lovely French girl-strange, and so strangely out of place in this bizarre world.
