Lesbian Letters by Christine Heron Stockton

Lesbian Letters

Christine Heron Stockton

From Library Journal

Written in the form of fictional letters, journal entries, and a few poems, this book attempts to explore the lives of contemporary lesbians. According to the author, the ‘letters’ were not written sequentially and can be read in any order, although some are responses to those that precede them. They are grouped into five chapters, dealing with coming out to self and family, lesbian relationships, children, and community. The situations referred to are classic, and the letters contain much information; they just don’t ring true. Whether supposedly written by teenagers, parents, older lesbians, or priests, they all seem to have the same voice. The title and synopses that precede each letter further points up their artificiality. Though well-intentioned, this collection misses the mark. James E. Van Buskirk, Acad. of Art Coll.
