Miss Pym Disposes is a famous 'subtextual' classic in the lesbian literary canon.
The Setting: An all-female physical training college (Leys College).
The Content: It is set in a 'world of women' where intense, obsessive female friendships are the primary focus.
Sapphic Interest: It is widely analyzed by queer scholars for its 'Boston Marriage' dynamics and the coded lesbianism of its characters (and its author, who lived a very private life). Many bibliographies of 20th-century lesbian fiction include it as an essential 'coded' text.
