Activists and scholars are mapping the intersections of queer theory and disability studies, moving embodiment and desire to the center of cultural and political analysis. Both fields hold that the categories heterosexual/homosexual and able-bodied/disabled are historically and socially constructed. This collection explores what each field offers the other and cultural studies in general. Topics include crip theory and queer and disabled performance artists; the historical emergence of normalcy and of military fitness standards that both produce and contain queerness and disability; and butch identity, transgressive sexual practices and rheumatoid arthritis.
