GLBT families are a neglected area of family research. In this collection, expert contributors present current research on GLBT families, covering problems unique to nontraditional families as well as issues found in all families, such as physical and emotional abuse. Chapters address parent-child relationships, child development, siblings, family structure, intimate relationships, stepfamilies and extended family. Topics include the family of origin, transgender identity and the family, a spouse coming out as gay, lesbian or bisexual, genogram techniques with lesbian couples, parental reactions to a child coming out, polyamory in some gay men’s relationships, same-sex marriage, heterosexism in therapy, and long-term lesbian couples. Each chapter is extensively referenced.
