Susan - draft deserter's wife, leftish activist, journalist, lesbian feminist—moves through the 70s. The sections where she slowly comes to terms with the inadequacies of (male-dominated) left activism, and collective working (also male-dominated) are more effective than her transition to lesbianism, which seemed somewhat lacking in conviction. By the end, it still seems that she has not totally given up on men in her personal life in spite of her experiences. Still, an interesting portrayal of the movement so many women went through.
