A Reckoning by May Sarton

Alison Hennegan writes that as A Reckoning evokes the decades-long friendship, passionate but never sexual, between two women, (it) is a lesbian novel: not because it's about the true nature of a repressed erotic relationship (it isn’t), but because Sarton’s own lesbianism informs and deepens her understanding and perception of women together.
