Alice B. Toklas' own account of her life with Gertrude Stein. It is written in a rather bitty style (as is much of Gertrude Stein’s own writing) which jumps from one event to the next. It is so filled with names of the many famous people they met, that it is difficult to imagine what their lives were really like. Nevertheless, the author comes across as stronger and more dynamic than might be expected from other writings about her. In this book, incomplete as it is in some ways, she emerges as a competent organiser with positive views of her own.
