Girls Girls Girls by Shoshana von Blanckensee

A Novel

Good, 4 stars

In the summer of 1996, eighteen-year-old Hannah and her best friend and secret girlfriend Sam drive from Long Beach, New York, to San Francisco, hoping to live openly as a couple away from Hannah's devout Orthodox Jewish mother, though it means leaving her beloved grandmother, Bubbe. On the way they meet a lesbian couple in Reno who earn their living as strippers. Short of money in San Francisco, the girls start stripping at The Chez Paree; Sam thrives, but Hannah hates it and turns to escort work with Chris, an older butch lesbian, which strains her relationship with Sam. When Bubbe falls terminally ill, Hannah returns home and must work out who she is and where home is.
