Bogeywoman by Jaimy Gordon

Fiction. In her third work of fiction, Jaimy Gordon takes on the difficult subject of a young girl who, coming of age and 'coming out' sexually, falls in love with an older woman and through the process of their relationship is cured.

A young lesbian named Ursula Koderer tells her story, beginning at Camp Chunkagunk and moving to the posh mental hospital where she is sent after an unfortunate 'incident.' Wherever she is, Ursula falls for devastating women, and she narrates her tale in a mixture of slang, poetic lyricism, and a highly original use of language.
