Good Story, But Very Long Book

`Caution Under Construction’ is a book I waited a long time to read. It was hard to find a copy, but I finally succeeded. It was well worth the wait and the effort.

Here, Vertigo brings us Sheridan Landers and Keefer Gibson – two women with distinctly different views on life. Sheridan is a player who vows never to settle down. She has one and sometimes two women every night. The only constants in her life are her two adopted dogs, her mentally-retarded brother, her supportive father, and her construction job. Regardless of her playgirl status, Sheridan respects the sanctity of marriage and despises cheating women. After Sheridan meets Keefer Gibson at her jobsite, she is determined to get past the other woman’s defenses. However, Keefer is already in a relationship. When Sheridan overhears Keefer’s partner bragging about cheating, the construction worker takes offense and defends Keefer’s honor. She subsequently finds her way into Keefer’s life, but there are challenges there as well.

The book continues telling the story of how Keefer overcomes her fears of abuse, commitment, and physical relationships in general. It also deals with the changes in Sheridan’s life as she realizes she’s in love for the first time.

I liked this book, the characters, and the story. Not only are the protagonists lovable, but the supporting cast is fun too. The only problem is the book is extremely long. Some of the writing is repetitive and portions are drawn out too long. If it had been reduced by about 200 pages, the book would have been absolutely fantastic. As it is, I’m glad I got the chance to enjoy Vertigo’s writing and will keep this one on my shelf for a long time.
