Come Out Smiling
Elizabeth Levy
When fourteen-year old Jenny says good-bye to her parents at the train station and boards the train to Camp Sacajawea, she’s expecting to have her best summer ever, and it looks as if it’s off to a good start when she spots Peggy, her favorite counselor and riding instructor, on the train and is introduced to Ann, Peggy’s new assistant.
Life at camp is fun–there’s a new horse to ride, and Marcie, whom Jenny had known the summer before, becomes her best friend. But as the summer progresses, Jenny learns of another kind of friendship between Peggy and Ann, and her admiration for Peggy changes dramatically.
Jenny’s great summer suddenly turns sour, and she’s almost tempted to give up her dream of competing in the Midsummer Horse Show.
