Derby Girl by Sammi Jones

Sammi Jones's comic memoir of women's flat track roller derby, told through experimental vignettes including text messages, instructional illustrations, lists, a derby glossary and a Shakespearean sonnet. She follows her progress from 'fresh meat' recruit to seasoned jammer, with detours through sobriety tests, emergency rooms, failing relationships and lost weekends, as derby forces her to confront her demons and her own sexual identity, including coming out to her mother.
