Double Daughter by Vicki P. McConnell

Denver – the city of Journalist-Detective Nyla Wade’s past, the city where she formed her youthful dreams. Nyla has returned to where her heart lies, only to discover clouds of menace hanging over the lives of gay friends old and new.

OUTLAW LEZ TEACHERS and other hate messages become terrible reality when lesbian teacher Pat Stevens is ruthlessly assaulted. And when another gay teacher is attacked, when vicious vandalism occurs, Nyla Wade goes after the hate group responsible with all the resources at her command.

Her allies include police Sergeant Salvador Compoz, who offers no reassurance that the threats aren’t from within a trusted circle of friends. Tough newspaperwoman Eleanor Bead, who commands “Get me the good dirt”. And cohorts who emerge from within the gay community: the Sisters of the Scarves, a guild of women with unique powers. A government ‘mole’. A sculptor of stone Amazons and her psychic lover. And Crazy Mary, the street woman with the purple disco gloves.

One friend lies in a death-like coma; another is marked for certain violence. When Nyla finally uncovers the truth about the campaign of hate, she finds herself in the greatest peril of her life…
