The Inside Story of a Woman’s Prison: A vivid autobiographical tale ('as told to Vincent Burns'), Female Convict recounts the deprivations of the author's childhood and her experience in prison on a criminal conviction.
From the back cover:
The matrons wielded whips...Dope peddling was rampant...The warden provided special cells for his 'favorite' girls...The crowded quarters encouraged unnatural yearnings...
Her crime was stealing a coat. Her punishment was eighteen months in a vermin-infested pen. Female Convict is an uncompromising indictment of this vicious system that treats women like caged animals and breeds degeneracy where it ought to bring freedom.
