If Looks Could Kill
Frances Lucas
Of course Diana would stop only to discover it’s that actress, Lauren Lytch who was so rude to her at a party less than an hour ago.
This is only the beginning for Diana Mendoza, scriptwriter for a popular TV detective series, as she finds herself drawn into a plot she didn’t create. Especially when Lauren turns out to be a prime murder suspect, and pleads with her for help.
Why not help, it might make an interesting story? But things are not that simple – not when Diana’s increasing attraction to Lauren takes over.
Diana’s friend Pat Cordoba warns her. ‘So you finally bagged yourself an Anglo. Well, let me tell you something, my friend. If you think sleeping with a white woman makes you white, the only one you’re fooling yourself. Stay away from her!’
But despite her best intentions, passion seems to be taking precedence over politics.

From Library Journal
Another Hispanic detective?actually, a lesbian Boston lawyer-turned-scriptwriter of Costa Rican heritage?becomes involved in murder when she journeys to Los Angeles. Diana Mendoza (who exudes attitude) plays good Samaritan to an arrogant, snot-nosed (and bisexual) Anglo model accused of murdering her philanthropist husband. The model eventually breaks through Mendoza’s defenses, and the pair’s relationship heats up just as the law closes in; Mendoza must then search for the real killer. Good dialog, unusual character interactions, and believable plot mark Mendoza’s debut. For most collections.
