Kristallnacht
Amirica I. Gatria-Varela
Kristallnacht is the story of a great love between two girls, who is born and raised in a convent in the beautiful city of Potsdam, just a few kilometers from Berlin. It also represents discrimination in all its forms: political, racial, social, religious and sexual preference. Life leads Sarah (our protagonist) down a different path. She marries John, a young American man who falls madly in love with her, and with whom he is expecting a son who is the product of a rape. Kareen (her faithful friend and lover) has decided to take the vows, and she stays in the convent like one more nun. Later, Sarah, after John’s death, begins a torrid romance with Kathy, a Cuban whom she knows while both are studying medicine at Columbia University, in New York. Sarah decides to return to Germany and Kathy to Cuba. While in Potsdam, she discovers that she suffers from cancer in her left breast. Sarah returns to New York and Kareen goes to the city of Kashmir (city disputed from the partition of India) by Pakistan and India. During a political uprising the nun suffers harassment and beatings and even repeated violations. Sarah searches for her in India to transfer her to a Hospital in West Berlin. But I will not count anymore, since as Voltaire said: ‘the secret to not bore is not to tell everything.’ (Google Translate)
