Lavanderette Of My Solitude
Red Jordan Arobateau
LAVENDERETTE OF MY SOLITUDE, a play in 3 acts by Master Author Red Jordan Arobateau is surrealistic, at times speaking thru the mouths of its highly controversial cast in symbolism, yet portrayed in street-level gritty realism. It has a great plot. You can read it like a novel. Characters from the highest to the lowest are assembled Christian Nun Sister Lavenderette, ex-communicated by her church, to the incorrigible street woman, Miss No Penny, too poor to own a pair of shoes that fit. A Jewish Activist-Publisher, and Christ, played as a ragged homeless m2f transsexual, are part of the cast. Master Playwright Red Jordan Arobateau’s players are as diverse & fascinating as what they have to say. Here is a quote about Sister Lavenderette, for whom this work (one of a trilogy) is named: this play will be about a nun, Mother Teresa-like. But more worldly, more feminist, and not under the thumb of the Pope of Rome. A kind of free-lance nun. Humorous, action packed and fast moving. There s love; the Gypsy, a witch, & mystic revealed to be a stealth transsexual finds a lover. There is interesting contrast & dialogue between Red a transsexual f2m man, and Bo a young butch dike, non-transitioned. The Prostitute, Beggar and Miss No Penny a m2f streetwalker of a low degree are humorous as well as thought provoking. This trio provides rich tableaux with their street antics. Their histories unwind thru the eyes of Sister Lavenderette. There is a surrealistic addition of The Murderer who brings a rough awakening to the frail bonds of comfort formed by the others. The introduction and final scenes are set in a place out of time in misty zone in which the play transcends its characters to probe the mysteries of life itself, thereby rising to a greater intensity.
