‘The essays in Lesbian Erotics are joined by more than their interest…in cultural representations of lesbian bodies and experiences of sexuality and sensuality. Collectively, they claim that lesbian eroticism exists ‘on slippery ground’ because our understanding of lesibianism itself has taken on a perplexing ambiguity. Rather, to appropriate Marshall McLuhan’s famous distinction, it is a valuable contribution to the ‘cool’ medium of critical theory in lesbian studies….The authors in this collection are able to discuss lesbian eroticism usefully because they are more interested in opening up new spheres within which to conceptualize it than in yoking themselves to definitions destined to reproduce the chronic fatigue of the 1980s sex wars.’
