Lesbian, Gay, and Bisexual Identities in Families by Charlotte J. Patterson; Anthony R. D’Augelli

Traditional understandings of families assume that parents and children are heterosexual, and only recently have psychologists studied lesbian, gay and bisexual lives within families. Editors Charlotte J. Patterson and Anthony R. D’Augelli bring together research on family relationships and dynamics and identify directions for future work. The first section covers perspectives on sexual orientation in families, including genetic contributions, social interaction, ethnic identity and cultural influences. The second looks at relationships within the families of lesbians, gay men and bisexual people, including parents and children and intergenerational processes in lesbian-headed families. The third addresses community and context: economic issues, antilesbian and antigay attitudes, social structures and social policy.
