Masquerade by Jim Elledge

An anthology of poetry by American gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender writers from pre-colonial times to the end of the Second World War, with work by more than 100 poets. It opens with anonymous texts from Hawaiian and Native American oral traditions, voodoo chants and cowboy songs, and then arranges poets by year of birth, from familiar names such as Gertrude Stein and Walt Whitman to lesser-known figures such as George Santayana and Adah Isaacs Menken.
