Murder is Germane

A Brigid Donovan mystery

Karen Saum

Panama, the land of Brigid’s birth. Where she adored with her child’s eyes the blonde and beautiful Georgie Hendryks, who ‘drove a lime-green convertible and rode a white stallion.’

Brigid has returned, to look into the disappearance of an INS agent because of his murky association with Monte Cassino, a Maine community of nuns.

Brigid locates Georgie – whose more than warm welcome makes all of Brigid’s childhood dreams come true. But Brigid’s visit also sets into motion an inexplicable series of violent deaths and attempts on Brigid’s own life.

Brigid must unravel the intricacies of the past, and the skein of tangled passions hidden within it, to discover the pattern behind the murders. Her very life depends on it…

From Library Journal

A tenuous thread barely holds this flimsy plot above water. Lesbian investigator Brigid Donovan enmeshes herself in old family relationships while trying to ascertain the whereabouts of one Carlos Brown. Supposedly a government agent searching for a drug connection between a so-called religious community and South American refugees, Brown figures mostly as a weak point of reference. Brigid jumps from Maine to Panama, questions relatives, hopes for romance, and gratuitously attracts the wrong sort of attention. No real motivation, conviction, or transition.
