Neaptide by Sarah Daniels

Using the myth of Demeter and Persephone as a starting point, the play, set in London in the 1980s, traces the inter-locking stories of Val, Claire and Dianne. Val, who is Claire’s married sister, is in hospital, waiting “to recover enough of my sanity to be allowed back to the world that drove me mad.” Claire is a lesbian school teacher, who is trying to gain custody of her daughter, while Dianne is a pupil who refuses to keep her lesbianism hidden at school.
