Perfectly Straight starts at the peak of Stevie’s movie career and follows her as she tries to resolve the conflict bretween her public and private persona. Stevie Ramsey could hear the roar of the crowd that had gathered to meet her at LAX, from inside the private plane. The crowd chanted her name when they saw the airplane door fling open. Tom Frances, her middle-aged agent, grabbed Kylie Winston, Stevie’s personal assistant, by the arm.

‘You come with me!’ Tom ordered Kylie as he led her out of the airplane and down the stairs.

The crowd shrieked when Stevie appeared at the craft’s door. She froze in the doorway, still taken aback by the hysteria that seemed to accompany her public appearances. She had trouble accepting that these people had turned out to see her. This was supposed to happen to people like The Beatles, not a Twenty-five-year-old Latina from Odessa, Texas, she told herself as she hesitantly began the procession down the stairs.
