This special issue explores the meeting of queer theory and comics studies: how comics represent and reimagine queer sexuality, desire, intimacy and eroticism, and how the hand-drawn form itself queers literary production. Contributors examine mainstream superhero comics, independent LGBTQ comics and experimental feminist narratives, including queer identification with the X-Men’s Rogue, the lesbian grassroots publishing networks that shaped Alison Bechdel’s work, and Black queer fantasy in Black Panther.
