Publisher’s Note
Rebellion is a tumultuous adventure, an historical romance and a lesbian love story. The Lady Isabella and her maid servant, Hope, are girls of sixteen as the story opens in 1715. This year marks the first of the first Jocabite rebellions — the doomed struggle to restore a Catholic monarchy for England and Sctoalnd. Change is everywhere and violence grips the nation while Hope and Isabella fall passionately in love. The teenagers learn as fast as they can — not only about war but especially about each other. Rustic yeoman rituals rub alongside eighteenth century high society in this novel and the lyrical text is peppered with the frightening events that bind their participants together. Throughout, the hidden histories of independent women not only aid Hope and Isabella in their sixteen month journey but also point toward this novel’s sequel. This is contemporary lesbian entertainment.
