The narratives come from U.S. Appalachian evangelicals, lesbian women represented in Canadian feminist educational tracts, an American convert to Judaism in the Middle East, and highly educated women represented in the mainstream media, told through police reports, memoirs and shelter talk. The collection closes with a call for holistic, local responses to violence against women and girls that attend closely to language.
