The Lesbian And Gay Christian Movement
Campaigning For Justice, Truth And Love
Sean Gill
Founded in 1976, LGCM has become the largest and most prominent group in Britain fighting to bring about change in the Christian Church’s traditional and deeply entrenched homophobic attitudes towards gay and lesbian sexuality. The first part of this book is a history of the movement which also protrays its aims and activities within the broader context of social and religious change over the past twenty years, and includes a critical analysis of the impact of the growth of the religious right and of the AIDS crisis on campaigns for gay and lesbian liberation. This is followed by a representative selection of previously unpublished personal testimonies, pamphlets and articles from the movement’s archives. The book concludes with three essays by Sean Gill, Robert Goss and Elizabeth Stuart which examine the moral and theological issues surrounding contemporary debates about homosexuality in the light of recent developments in queer theory and gender studies.
