The Love of Good Women by Isabel Miller

The Love of Good Women

Isabel Miller

Milly is a lesbian, in love with her sister-in-law, and desperately unhappy, boxed in by the truth of her biology. Gertrude is a God-fearing Christian, properly submissive to her husband Earl. He and their four children treat her as a charwoman and make fun of her, but she remains faithful, the perfect wife.

When Earl pushes Gertrude into working the night-shift at a local war plant, she is at first shy, reluctant and unhappy. Eventually, though, through the company and love of the women she meets there, she is able to stand up to the wretch she is married to and find happiness.

Milly, on the other hand, falls in love with another woman and experiences culture shock that happens when our dearest fantasies become reality. To get what she wants, Milly must be prepared to give up all that she has.
