Thinking Sexuality Transnationally examines new forms of sexuality and desire from a global perspective, considering legal, popular-culture and academic approaches in national contexts (China, Brazil, Indonesia, Thailand) and transnational ones (Puerto Rico, Guatemala, the United States). The contributors see these new forms as arising in borderlands redefined by mass media and communication. Essays include a study of gay male identities in China, sexual pedagogy and the ‘new Brazilian homosexuality,’ amnesty applications submitted by lesbians in Guatemala, gender and sexuality in Taiwanese opera, and a review of transgender literature and language.
