Turnip Blues by Helen Campbell

Mrs. Kuzo and Mrs. Lemack, the heroines of this book, both aged 75, have been friends for over 60 years. They take off for the Pennsylvania town where Bessie Smith is buried, on a pilgrimage to her grave. En route in Mrs. Lemack's Firebird, they reminisce about their long, eventful lives.
