When We Were Young by Jackie Calhoun

Emily Cortland and Brett Tarlington have been best friends since childhood. Brett wants more than friendship, but Emily is not so sure: her life is already quite complicated. One thing is for certain though: the bond between the women is unbreakable.

When Emily and Brett's friendship matures into a partnership, their relationship is tested by secrets, temptation, and a changing cast of characters from work and play. Across the years, the family they forge is threatened by the times. Their story chronicles a family beset by fears of coming out, bullying, jealousy and separation. Can trust, once broken, be restored?
