Woman with Red Hair
Sigrid Brunel
Magalie meets Danielle, a fascinating French journalist who inspires her to return to France in search of the woman who gave her up at the age of five, and together they try to solve the mystery behind her mother’s death.
From Library Journal
Young adoptee Magalie Lisan, reared by a French couple in San Francisco, hopes to penetrate the mystery of her mother’s early death and locate the redheaded woman who raised her as a small child. She journeys to the south of France where, as sights and sounds bring back remembrances of things past, she talks to local people who knew both women (they were lovers). Strongly evocative prose and an undercurrent of eroticism signify Magalie’s picturesque quest for her past and a sense of her own sexuality. Despite a somewhat annoying present tense and occasional antiseptic dialog, this seductive tale should fit into larger collections.
