The phrase “A long way from innocence” could describe the position that many people are in at this very moment in their personal lives. Keisha and Briyah are, indeed, a long way from innocence, wrapped in the intoxication of love and fear and joy and hurt and rejection–rejection from a world of judgmental people pretending to know what the right thing to do is for everyone but themselves. They are wrapped in rejection from family and friends, life and the church, and everyone and everything except love.
