London Phillips, a full-time realtor and part-time writer, tap dances between the expectations she holds for herself and those others impose upon her. As she searches for Milagros Farrow, a revered lesbian author who suddenly has vanished, London wrestles with the approach-avoid dilemma posed by Lenah Miller, a woman who just may have enough in common with London to be able to offer her understanding.<\/p>\n

Lenah Miller, accused by her former lover Candace of failing to strive for the most in life, nurtures seeds of distrust toward women whom she judges to be overly ambitious or dismissive of her because of their background differences. Steeped in cynicism and shaped by harsh memories, Lenah finds it easier to criticize a woman whose gentle mannerisms underscore their different upbringings than to accept that woman just as she is.<\/p>\n

Rand Carson is a prominent newspaper journalist who is forced to deal with the dissolution of her long term interracial relationship and the unexpected loss of her financial security. When Rand meets London, she seems compelled to pursue a relationship with her. Is it possible she’s more attracted to the idea of London’s ethnicity than she is to London herself?<\/p>\n

Candace Dickerson, a corporate events planner, is married to avarice. In order to achieve a more lucrative future, Candace has abandoned Lenah and moved into the city where she executes a plot designed to augment her income with other people’s money.<\/p>\n

The threads entwined around London’s desire to connect with a kindred spirit, Lenah’s wary skepticism, Rand’s inappropriate and misguided ardor and Candace’s greed come undone when three people fall victim to blackmail, one reappears from the ethers of the past, and another succumbs to murder.<\/p><\/div>\n
