Moving between England and France, the protagonists of this novel unravel a sometimes scary, occasionally hilarious, mystery. A cast of gay, straight and lesbian characters in wholly believable events make this a compelling story where theft isn’t always what it seems and new-age therapists can mislead. <\/p>\n

But The Patterned Flute is also a very British tale of lesbian romance with action shadowed by cynicism, heartbreak and lust. <\/p>\n

Knowledge of Sami’s death nudged at my mind with persistent fingers, and I knew that somewhere under my satisfied desire, I was deeply afraid. If these people could indulge in widespread theft and beat up Duggie so casually, with such an apparent lack of concern for the consequences, what else could they do? I shivered.<\/p>\n
