This is the story of Gertrude, a woman of German descent living in a small town in New Zealand community, about her grand-daughters, and about a town which like so many others is not quite what it seems. <\/p>\n

Renee’s absorbing fourth novel exposes notions of community that, like the snowball waltz, may work only on certain occasions for very specific reasons. Most of the time, like Gertrude, we must make it our own.<\/p>\n
