She’s going to help the Minyan of Resistance, a network of Jewish rebels operating in the dark spaces of an increasingly authoritarian state. She’s also going to find Judith Braverman.\n\n\n\n\n\nJudith is the girl Dani connected with through letters, through codes hidden in papercutting, through correspondence that felt like the most real thing either of them had ever done. The connection was brief. It changed everything. Now Judith is in the GFS and Dani is crossing back into a place designed to erase people like them both.\n\n\n\n\n\nThe GFS government doesn’t see Jewish citizens as citizens anymore. The persecution mirrors historical patterns\u2014ghettos rebuilt with modern logistics, laws designed to systematize exclusion, the machinery of a state that has decided certain populations are the problem. It’s systematic. It’s efficient. It’s escalating.\n\n\n\n\n\nDani and Judith have to figure out how to love each other while the country works to eliminate them. It’s not romantic. It’s desperate. The stakes aren’t about relationship milestones\u2014they’re about survival, about whether the underground movement can actually hold, about what resistance looks like when your government has decided you shouldn’t exist.\n\n\n\n\n\nJeffrey is in this too. His best friends are building a movement and he’s caught in it, closeted still but fighting anyway. The three of them become the architecture of something larger than themselves: a resistance that’s also an act of being alive while the state says they shouldn’t be.\n\n\n\n\n\nEvery choice becomes tactical. Every feeling becomes dangerous. There’s no space for normal teenage life, no separation between personal and political.
