In a rural Minnesota town, veterinarian Nedra Wells tries to get to the bottom of the fertility problems of the cows on a struggling farm.<\/p>\n

Veterinarian Nedra Wells has moved to a small town in Minnesota<\/p>\n

to open her own mixed-animal practice. For years she has<\/p>\n

envisioned being a country vet like her father, and after meeting<\/p>\n

and falling in love with school teacher Annie Callahan, Nedra was<\/p>\n

sure she could have it all–the career, the lover and life in a<\/p>\n

small town. It’s what she’s always wanted. It should be perfect.<\/p>\n

But it’s not. Nedra and Annie’s reception in town–as low-<\/p>\n

profile, but unmistakable lesbians, has been polite, but cool.<\/p>\n

Annie’s reservations about leaving their urban life have not been<\/p>\n

replaced by a happy settling in. Her sense of isolation seems<\/p>\n

only to increase with her fear that sharing a life with Nedra<\/p>\n

will mean giving up her own. Against a backdrop of a possible<\/p>\n

fracture in her relationship, Nedra’s practice confronts her with<\/p>\n

a deadly health crisis in a local cattle herd. Baffled at first<\/p>\n

by her inability to diagnose and treat the problem medically,<\/p>\n

Nedra’s inquiry leads her into a broader investigation and<\/p>\n

ultimately, to the solution of a very human problem.<\/p><\/div>\n
