[Jump to the Top 5 Lesbian Book Lists]
We have Lesbian book lists here on LesbianFunWorld, a website about lesbian books. I, for one, love lists. They are neat, tidy, tiny (hopefully) little catalogues of things. And if you aren’t sure why catalogues are a big deal, check out the About Us Page for a little insight.
But enough about me, what about you? Why would you want lists of lesbian books to read? Well, here are some reasons why you would want a list or two of lesbian books to read.
1. You are travelling to a desert island
So let’s suppose you need a vacation. Don’t we all? You want to get away for a while on a sandy beach, with the sun blazing down. A cool breeze, a palm tree, and some books. Well… food, a washroom, shelter, a bar and concierge service would be nice too. But, back on track here. You are travelling to a desert island, and want to take some books. Which ones would you take? Aside from your favourites, obviously. You want something fresh and interesting. Look to a book list. It will help you narrow your choices since time’s-a-wastin’.
2. You’re bored and want a challenge
Look no further than a lesbian book list to challenge you. Or to help you challenge your friends! Each of you read one book on the list, then compare thoughts, based on the subject of the list. It’s not necessary to see who finishes first, or has the best overall analysis, but, well it is a challenge.
3. You will develop an expertise
Nothing says “life of the party” like being able to discuss multiple lesbian books with basketball themes. Or to at least be able to hold your own in a heated discussion of the geo-political differences between Muslim queers and everyday post-Socialist Russian lesbian lives. Because that happens, a lot.
4. Your friend is going to a desert island
She’s called you up, asking for recommendations to take with her on her upcoming trip to a desert island. She wants lesbian vampire romance novels, each no more than 10 years old. What are you going to do? Madly dash around the Internet with crazy keywords, hoping for the best? Or will you be able to say, “No problem. I just finished reading a few lesbian vampire romance novels, here’s a few names.”
5. You want to become a writer
I heartily encourage would-be writers to read books, particularly books in the genre or topic in which you will be writing. Even if it’s just five books by different authors, you will be educated beyond your imagination. “Sure, all of these books are by Black lesbian poets, but they are sooooo different. Where will my voice be amongst theirs?” Reading lesbian books from a thematic list will likely improve your comfort level, too. You’ll be able to share your voice among giants.
Convinced? Great, it’s time to check out our Top 5 Lists of Lesbian Books. Enjoy!
