Feminism Meets Queer Theory by Elizabeth Weed; Naomi Schor

Feminism Meets Queer Theory brings together innovative scholarship exploring the shifting relationships between feminist theory, queer theory, and lesbian theory. While these fields share political commitments and intellectual histories, the volume acknowledges the tensions and misunderstandings that often arise between them, and treats those moments of friction as productive rather than divisive.

The collection examines how key categories—such as sex, gender, sexuality, race, and identity—are transformed as they move between feminist and queer theoretical frameworks. Essays by Judith Butler, Evelynn Hammonds, Biddy Martin, Kim Michasiw, Carole-Anne Tyler, and Elizabeth Weed are complemented by in-depth interviews and critical exchanges. These include Judith Butler’s conversations with Rosi Braidotti and Gayle Rubin, a dialogue between Rosi Braidotti and Trevor Hope, and Teresa de Lauretis’s response to Elizabeth Grosz’s review of her work. Together, these contributions model a form of engagement in which theoretical disagreement opens possibilities for mutual political and intellectual transformation.
