Michael Field was the pseudonym of Katharine Bradley (1846-1914) and Edith Cooper (1862-1913), aunt and niece, co-authors and lovers, for the poetry and verse drama they published together. This first scholarly edition of any of Michael Field’s writing gathers 168 love letters, long thought lost, many from the early years of their collaboration (1876-1885), including published and unpublished poems and insight into the dramas. Extensive annotation and a biographical introduction challenge the myth of the poets’ perfect unity and set their work in context.
