A Passion for Friends by Janice Raymond

Toward a Philosophy of Female Affection

Janice Raymond sees female bonding and friendship as the central elements in transforming patriarchy and the only way to break loose from what she terms the “hetero-relational society”, from the “dominance of the ideology that woman is for man.” The energy for this focuses around the concept of Gyn/affection which denotes “woman to woman attraction, influence and movement...” At times the language seems unnecessarily complex, but the ideas in the book are very positive and optimistic, and Janice Raymond regards female friendships as having a very potent bearing on feminism.
