The first lesbian and queer historical geography of New York City. Rapid gentrification has erased many lesbian and queer spaces, displacing some of the most marginalized members of the LGBTQ+ community. Gieseking maps the political, economic and geographic dispossession of communities in neighborhoods such as Greenwich Village, Park Slope, Bedford-Stuyvesant and Crown Heights, showing how lesbian and queer neighborhoods have given way to white, wealthy gentrifiers, and how lesbians and queers have nonetheless carved out spaces and lives in a city that keeps pushing its most vulnerable residents away.
