Drawing on feminist and queer theory from Nancy Chodorow to Judith Butler to Valerie Solanas’s SCUM Manifesto, Chris Straayer considers films made by and for nontraditional viewers. Her study ranges from Stella Dallas to Mrs. Doubtfire, from lesbian and gay films such as M dchen in Uniform and Go Fish, and from music video figures such as David Bowie, Dead or Alive and Divine, to examine transgressions of traditional gender boundaries.
