Emily Hawk is a 35 year old lesbian recovering from the loss of her best friend to AIDS. She is also recovering from the breakup with her young lover Bonnie.

She is just returning to life when she falls in love and into bed with Catherine, a reserved and independent woman.

Emily struggles to define her roles in relation to Catherine and Paul, another gay man daying of AIDS. When Paul askes her to find his former lover to relay a message, she begins exploring another Chicago.

As she tries to help Paul, she has to make choices and piece her life together.
