Webster challenged stage tradition and attitudes toward professional women in American and British theater, working with John Gielgud, No l Coward, George Bernard Shaw, Uta Hagen, Sybil Thorndike and Eva Le Gallienne. The book covers her personal and family life and her investigation by Senator Joseph McCarthy and HUAC, which left her unable to work for a year.
