Sexual Futures, Queer Gestures, and Other Latina Longings by Juana María Rodríguez

A theory of sexual politics working between radical queer desire and the urgency of changing public policy, between utopian longing and everyday failure. Starting from stereotypes of the hyperbolically gestural queer Latina femme body, Juana María Rodríguez examines how gesture and embodiment shape sexual pleasure and practice. Centered on racialized queer women, her archive includes burlesque border crossings, daddy play, pornography, sodomy laws and sovereignty claims. She reads Puerto Rican activists alongside sexual performance on stage, in pornography, in multimedia installations, on the dance floor and in the bedroom, to rethink sexual politics.
